Over the last twenty-five years, Serban Ghenea has become one of the most prolific, in demand mix engineers of his time. His vast discography has grown to over 800 albums for a wide range of notable artists spanning over all genres, including Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Dave Matthews Band, Bjork, Carrie Underwood, Beck, Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Keith Urban and many, many more.
Serban’s exceptional talent can be shown by his many accolades. Most notably, he has been nominated thirty-eight times for a GRAMMY, winning nineteen. Serban has also taken home three Latin GRAMMY’s. His first GRAMMY win was in 2004 for his contributions to Justin Timberlake’s debut studio album, “Justified.” At the 2022 Grammy Awards, Serban received five nominations and won the award for mixing “Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic.
As of April 2023, he has mixed over 159 #1 singles and albums, including sixty-three Billboard Hot 100 #1s for artists like The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Pink, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Halsey, Imagine Dragons, Jonas Brothers, Ellie Goulding, Maroon 5, and Taylor Swift.
Serban’s mixes have played a significant role in shaping music history on the charts. For instance, “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 ft. Cardi B has tied for the longest Top 10 run in Billboard chart’s archives and held the #1 position on the Adult Contemporary chart for a record-breaking thirty-six consecutive weeks. Serban also mixed Ariana Grande’s single “7 Rings,” which spent eight non-consecutive weeks atop the Hot 100 chart, becoming her longest-running number one single to date. Additionally, Taylor Swift’s LOVER mixed by Ghenea in its entirety, was the best-selling album of 2019 in the United States and globally. In 2022, Serban mixed Taylor Swift’s entire MIDNIGHTS album which hit #1 on the US Billboard 200 and stayed there for five weeks.
Serban mixed 25 tracks off of the Billboard Hot 100 Songs of the Decade list that was released in December of 2019, including “Uptown Funk”, “Girls Like You”, “Shake It Off” and many other hits.
